Collage

In early 2024 I wanted to create art, but the idea of drawing or painting felt burdensome. So, I adapted my art practice to match my energy levels and began collaging. I enjoy the process of combing through magazines, damaged books, and media libraries online to source exactly the right images to fit what it is I'm creating. I also often find myself using carefully curated scrapbooking supplies to create a sense of cohesion in a body of work.

Strange and Scary Things

In April 2024 I came across a damaged copy of 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark' (Alvin Schwartz) while browsing at a thrift store. I remember having a copy as a child and spending long stretches of time flipping through the book to marvel over the iconic illustrations by Stephen Gammell. I, of course, took the book home and decided to make a series of collages reimaging the illustrations and stories contained therein.

Major Arcana

The 22 cards of the Major Arcana are arguably the most important cards in the tarot deck. They are numbered from 0 to 21 and major themes, archetypes, lessons, and turning points in "The Fool's Journey." I've always loved the idea of combining my interests in tarot and art by creating my own deck. I find collage to be the most versatile way for me to convey the messages and symbolism of each of the cards.
