Alchemy is an ancient tradition that combines elements of nature, chemistry, and mysticism to study and practice the art of transmutation. Historically, the ultimate goal of an alchemist was to create a Philosopher's Stone, a stone that was said to have the power to turn any metal into gold and grant the owner immortality by brewing the Elixir of Life.

Art is also considered by many to be a form of alchemy, albeit in a more metaphoric sense. The artist, through painting, writing, music, dance, and other practices is able to take the energy stored in their body and transform it. Through artistic expression, the intangible becomes something more grounded in reality, something that the audience is able to experience, relate to, and find meaning in. This process allows artist to create a form of gold and, if done well, also grants the creator a version of immortality through legacy and remembrance. Their work lives on long after their body has died and decayed.
